The new Bacher Post-Etch-Punch recently installed at Calumet Electronics. Eight cameras and a whole bunch of German Engineering. Inner layer PCB cores are punched prior to being laid up and laminated.

This line applies a Nickel Gold surface finish to printed circuit boards at Calumet Electronics. Don't ask me how, that's what our process engineers figure out.

Laser Direct Imaging

The latest very cool piece of equipment installed at Calumet Electronics. This is laser direct imaging. Yes, a solid-state laser complete with prism and the space-age rocket-looking air cleaning system.

I may not work for NASA, but for Calumet, MI, this is pretty darn cool.

Calumet-Desmear and Electroless

Pictures of the Desmear and Electroless line at Calumet Electronics. This line cleans and prepares drilled holes and then chemically prepares the holes to receive copper plating.

Press and Layup

Pictures of the new Press and Layup areas at Calumet Electronics. Much of the work on this project was done by REL, Inc. of Calumet. This department is where circuit board "sandwiches" are assembled and pressed together under heat and pressure.

Calumet Plating Pictures

Pictures of one of Calumet's Plating Lines. This line applies copper and tin electro- plating to Printed Circuit Boards.

Equipment From Italy

Today's equipment is from Italy. The equipment helps maintain high quality drill holes in printed circuit boards following one of the chemical processes.

Discovery AOI Shots

The other machinery shoot for Calumet Electronics this week is the Discovery 8. This is another visual inspection machine that does high-speed image comparison between original CAM data and data captured from an imaged PCB panel.

Film Plotter

Today's pictures are of our our Orbotech Plotter. The plotter prints circuit images on film. That film is then used to transfer the image on to the circuit board material.

Optek InnerVision

This equipment X-Rays features inside a board for size attributes and is able to obtain feature to feature measurements. Made by the same company as the previous Video Mic.

Optek Video Mic

You can tell I've been shooting a lot of pictures where I work lately. This batch is of our Optek Video Mic. This machine uses light and a high resolution camera to find features on a printed circuit board and measure attributes of the feature.

The Optek can also take measurements between features to ensure the board is dimensionally correct.

TMP Press

These are pictures of the Press at Calumet Electronics. This is the equipment that applies heat and pressure to create a multi-layer printed circuit board.

Punch

Not as in boxing, as in a machine that punches tooling holes in material that goes into a Printed Circuit Board. M

Scoring
